1897 photo taken from the Marston Water Tower (built that year) looking east toward the village of Ames. The picture taken from the walkway surrounding the base of the tower. The date is just four years after the campus was annexed into the city limits of Ames on January 2, 1893. On the left is Morrill Hall (built in 1890); on the right is Main Hall (built in 1868) which housed most of the college in its early years. The Dinkey's western depot is in the center of the photo; in 1915 this building was moved behind Morrill and became known as "the Hub." The building in the extreme upper left is the Agricultural Hall (built in 1892). The flagpole in the center marks the site of the future Campanile. The building among the trees in the center was known as the Creamery.
