Ames Times, January 19, 1893: “You Nevada ‘fellers’ had better look a little out now. We Ames people eat bear meat.” In the 1860s a rivalry grew between Ames and the county seat, Nevada. This rivalry often manifested itself in a war of words in newspapers. Conflicts arose over the location of the County Fair and County Courthouse. Douglas Biggs will detail aspects of these fights and how Nevada emerged as the winner.
